The Conference
The Department of Geography and Resource Management (GRMD) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is hosting the 11th International Conference on Sustainable Tourism on 12 May, 2023. This conference follows the well-established series of conferences on sustainable tourism held annually since 2012, supported by the Master of Social Science in Sustainable Tourism (MSSST) programme of GRMD, CUHK. The past conferences have centred around themes such as sustainable tourism development and practices, community and environmental resilience, global-local understanding, innovation in tourism, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and global crises. Bringing together brilliant minds across the globe, the conferences have successfully advanced academic conversations and facilitated collaborations among tourism researchers, practitioners and students.
The “Sustainable Tourism for Inclusive Growth” in 2022 responded to the worldwide recovery of tourism development and industry from the COVID-19 pandemic over the past two years. The 2023 conference adopts the theme of “Sustainable, Transformative and Regenerative Tourism”, which echoes the focus of UNWTO’s World Tourism Day 2022: “Rethinking Tourism: From Crisis to Transformation. The conference aims to continue to reinforce the already established reunion of international, regional and local tourism academics including scholars, researchers, experts, practitioners and students to address the next move of sustainable tourism in recovery and development

Objectives
The upcoming conference in May 2023 seeks to address these questions and beyond. It offers a platform to tourism scholars, researchers, practitioners and students to interact and debate issues relating to sustainable tourism and its role in enhancing transformation and regeneration of destinations worldwide. The conference aims to promote the exchange of academic dialogues and support innovative research and practices in coping with the challenges and recovery of sustainable tourism in this critical time of our world.
