The Department of Geography and Resource Management (GRMD) of The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK) is hosting the 12th International Conference on Sustainable Tourism on 9-11 May 2024. This conference follows the well-established series of conferences on sustainable tourism held annually since 2012, supported by the Master of Social Science in Sustainable Tourism (MSSST) programme of GRMD, CUHK. The past conferences have centred around sustainable tourism development and practices, community and environmental resilience, global-local understanding, innovation in tourism, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), global crises, and transformation and regeneration. Bringing together brilliant minds across the globe, these conferences have successfully advanced academic conversations and facilitated collaborations among tourism researchers, practitioners, and students.
The conference explores how tourism and sustainable investments can shape a better world. It will discuss how to diversify markets, reduce risks, enhance resilience, and involve locals. It will also examine how investments can foster innovation, technology, and entrepreneurship while conserving nature and culture. It highlights the importance of collaboration and partnerships for responsible and long-term tourism investments.
The 2023 conference responded to UNWTO’s World Tourism Day 2022 focus: Rethinking Tourism: From Crisis to Transformation. The recent conferences aim to continue reinforcing the already established reunion of international, regional, and local tourism academics including scholars, researchers, experts, practitioners, and students to address the next move of sustainable tourism in recovery and development.
Apply online before 2 May 2024. See you in CUHK!
